Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the levels of Softball in Manitoba?

A level ball is community club level Softball. The season usually runs May-June with Provincials in early July. If you reside in the NESA catchment you will play for the North East Storm. Evaluations are held in Spring to form teams. Everyone who registers for A level ball will be placed on a team.

AA level ball is new for 2021. Players must be registered on an A team and continue to play the season. The AA season will run May-mid August, only on Fridays until the end of the A season Provincials, with the hope of an August Provincial. The number of Fridays is decided by each region involved. Tryouts may be held to form teams.

AAA level ball is elite level Softball. Tryouts are held in August/September for the upcoming Spring season. If you reside in the NESA catchment, and you reside in a City of Winnipeg electoral ward, you are eligible to try out for Thunder.

I play A ball with NESA. If I want to play AA or AAA ball, who would I play with?

Athletes that reside in the NESA catchment for A ball and reside in a City of Winnipeg electoral ward (vote for a city councilor) are eligible to try out for Thunder's AA and AAA teams.

Athletes that reside in the NESA catchment for A ball and DO NOT reside in a City of Winnipeg electoral ward (don't vote for a city councilor) are eligible to try out for Interlake Phillies' AA and AAA teams.
